Ingredients: Garbanzo beans (15 oz), tahini (1/4 C), 2 red bell peppers, 1-2 lemons, garlic (1/2 clove), olive oil (2 T), cumin (1/2 t), and salt (to taste).
When I attempt to explain to someone the sport I compete in, I tell them that I lift something that looks like a bowling ball with a handle, over my head, somewhere between 100 and 200 times in ten minutes. Sounds a little crazy, right?
Life has been busy and exciting during these last couple months of 2014! Building up a client base and new programs takes time and lots of work, but I’m looking forward to where 2015 will take me.
When I started working at Point Loma Sports Club, I was so excited to discover that one of my favorite fitness bloggers, Gina from The Fitnessista, also works there! I took one of her Zumba classes and introduced myself as one of her fans. She’s the first “blog celebrity” I’ve met in person!
One of the most common responses I get when I talk to people about making healthy changes to their diet is “I don’t have time to cook.”
While I completely understand that most people live a busy life that leaves little time or energy at the end of the day to prepare food, the misconception here is that cooking a fresh, healthy meal is complicated.
Here is an example of a quick, easy side dish that takes less than 10 minutes to prepare. Top with a fried egg and serve with avocado, tomato, and a slice of bread for a delicious lunch or dinner.
Mushrooms & spinach cooked in coconut oil with garlic, red pepper flakes, and a pinch of salt. Saute for 3-5 minutes until spinach wilts.

Yesterday was my first Bolt Kettlebell Sport competition, hosted by Michael LoBue at Foundation Strength. I was blown away by how much fun the event was and how many newcomers to Kettlebell Sport got up on the platform! I especially loved seeing a bunch of kids who are getting into the sport.
We are one week away from the Bolt competition at Foundation Strength. Not sure I am ready myself but my KOR athletes are progressing great!
Dave & Lauren have been attending my semi-private Kettlebell Sport workshop on Monday & Wednesday nights for the past three weeks, getting individualized programming and coaching in order to prepare for the competition.
In the weeks leading up to the AKA/IUKL Nationals 2014 in New York, I had a major kettlebell breakthrough. I improved my 20kg snatch number by more than 15 reps and consistently hit Master of Sport numbers in 24kg Long Cycle. So what “magic” happened to instigate this breakthrough?
