Let me start by saying that the Kettlebell Sport community is amazing – the support from the lifters and spectators at the West Coast Classic 2015 was unbelievable! This is truly a sport that opens its arms to new lifters, and this competition was a great first GS experience for all of my KOR Strength athletes.
As promised, here are the remaining interview questions with Ice Chamber’s Steven Khuong:
Steven Khuong taught me most of what I know about Kettlebell Sport, and coached me to my Master of Sport ranking. Continue reading
When I attempt to explain to someone the sport I compete in, I tell them that I lift something that looks like a bowling ball with a handle, over my head, somewhere between 100 and 200 times in ten minutes. Sounds a little crazy, right?
Yesterday was my first Bolt Kettlebell Sport competition, hosted by Michael LoBue at Foundation Strength. I was blown away by how much fun the event was and how many newcomers to Kettlebell Sport got up on the platform! I especially loved seeing a bunch of kids who are getting into the sport.
We are one week away from the Bolt competition at Foundation Strength. Not sure I am ready myself but my KOR athletes are progressing great!
Dave & Lauren have been attending my semi-private Kettlebell Sport workshop on Monday & Wednesday nights for the past three weeks, getting individualized programming and coaching in order to prepare for the competition.
In the weeks leading up to the AKA/IUKL Nationals 2014 in New York, I had a major kettlebell breakthrough. I improved my 20kg snatch number by more than 15 reps and consistently hit Master of Sport numbers in 24kg Long Cycle. So what “magic” happened to instigate this breakthrough?
Here is a recap of my week, in pictures!
I hiked Iron Mountain in the Poway area with Rampage (3.5 miles up). He was a total trooper, and took a nice nap on the drive home!
I’m excited to announce I will be leading the Kettlebell Sport Program at KOR in North Park, San Diego! I will be coaching Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-8pm and Saturdays from 1-2pm. I will also be holding an Introduction to Kettlebell Sport Workshop this Saturday, October 25 from 1-3pm for anyone interested in lifting competition bells. Whether you are looking for a new skill to invigorate your workout routine or plan to be part of KOR‘s competition team, this workshop is necessary for understanding and developing the basic techniques of Kettlebell Sport.
I’m lucky to be staying in the beautiful city of Del Mar, just up the road from Torrey Pines State Beach (pictured above). I’ve thoroughly enjoyed waking up in the morning and either hiking at Torrey Pines State Park or just ambling along the shore and taking a dip afterwards.
